About Us
Our Story

“Writes for a Cause” began in 2015 as the title of a self-taught college course — a personal commitment to giving through writing. What started as a symbolic project has grown into a heartfelt mission to support orphaned children across Africa and Asia.

Founder Natalie Harley first connected with Kel Jose, an artist and caretaker for 30 children living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda, in 2022. Through monthly school payments, funding for food and clothing, and later the installation of a clean water source, Writes for a Cause helped transform the lives of these children and their surrounding community.

Despite facing personal health challenges, including a breast-cancer diagnosis in 2024, the founder continued providing for these children — extending support to two additional orphanages in 2025.
Today, Writes for a Cause represents resilience, faith, and the belief that one person’s compassion can ripple across continents.

Our Vision

To inspire change and empower the next generation of world leaders by giving children access to the basic necessities that allow them to dream bigger.

Our Mission
To uplift orphaned and vulnerable children through education, clean water, and sustainable community support — creating opportunities for a brighter, self-reliant future.
Our Values

1st Uganda Mission 2025 – Our goals for several years has been to purchase 2 acres of land next to an existing orphanage building to expand the garden and to build a community center for church, school and community gatherings. We are in agreement with the land owner to make payments in installments. The total cost is $10,000US funds.

2nd Uganda Mission – Bunk beds fully dressed for a better and healthier sleeping space. We are in need of (27) bunk beds (10 for one orphanage and 17 for the larger orphanage). At this time, the children sleep on floor mats made by the adult caretakers. The shacks are open air, so mosquito nets are a must to prevent mosquito borne illnesses to occur. (32) children and one adult caretaker are infected with HIV/AIDs, and are on daily medication for a healthier life. Having the children off the floors of an open air situation, would prevent their fragile immune system to become compromised.

3rd Pakistan Mission – There are 64 children in the Pakistan orphanage. They are in need of school supplies; in this situation they have access to several teachers, they need everything else for the children to learn basic education. A blackboard or other multi-use learning board for the teacher. Pens, pencils and paper, or white boards or chalk boards or all of the above for the children. A curriculum guide and study books for the children’s needs. Reading books, and bookshelves or shelving to have supplies stored up off the ground. Desks or lapboards, for the children to work on.

Mission and Vision Statement

Our vision is to assist those who have lost hope for a better tomorrow by networking with others who have the financial ability to make dreams and goals a reality. We strive to be efficient and cooperative in supporting those in extreme poverty to become self-sufficient.

At Writes for a Cause, our mission is to bring hope and generate ideas through the tenacity of our words, with a focus on serving people living in poverty. As a non-profit organization, we are dedicated to using the power of writing to make a positive impact and create opportunities for those in need in our community and worldwide.
